a developing story overnight... a water mmin break causes a sinkhole this morning.... and it has one road closed right now... possibly for the rest of the day... kwwls amanda gilbert joins us live in aterlooo... she's been on scene all morning and can tell us ore river road between commercial street and ansborough avenue are closed right now because of the water main break... waterloo police tell me this they also tell me that the break caused a sinkhole... which then made a light pole cave in... officers say no one was hurt and but they did tell me to plan again it's

vosberg was driving his truck at about 30 miles per hour. he climbed out of the drivers seat, and stood on the running boards... steering the truck froro the outside. while he was trying to get back in his truck, he slipped and house -- instead of calling around an hour, by the time they got him loaded back into the truck and then taken to this mothers house, which is a few miles from where it happened...and then in turn she transported him down to dubuque." authorities say calling 911 right medical attention earlier. they're also investigating to see if alcohol was involved. a kwwl follow-up. a restaurant where two sheriff's again. the panera bread in maryland was the scene of a shootout between deputies and a suspect. two deputies and the suspect died. the restaurant still has lloons, animals outside the restaurant. now a look at some bills moving through the iowa legislature.

the two men were only in the water for a couple minutes -- but the water was only 37 degrees. an unexpected sight for those driving by...a plane on the highway/ this happening in florida a little northwest of miami. the pilot radioed in engine trouble and made the emergency landing. only the pilot,and one passenner were on board the plane at the titie... no injuries were reported. the plane is expected to be towed from the area today. a man accused of stealing a backhoe digs himself into a deep hole. this dasascam video out o o flordda show deputies chasing the man...as the man drives along causing damage to the roadway. eventually deputies are able to throw townwnspikes to stop it. he's now facing numerous charges. student loans are a part of life for many americans - and many struggle to pay them

someone being arrested for unpaid loans? it happened in texas. paul aker says u-s marshals surrounded his home and arrested him. he says he had no ea why. it wasnsn until the rre to jail "what? all those guys and all those guns for a student loan? aker says he had two others loans he paid off -- but claims he didn't know he still owed 15-hundred dollars. they rolle out a list of notices -- but aker says he didn't receive them. u-s marshals claim aker resisted arrest and the situation escalated when he told them he had a gun. they say in houston alone, about 15-hundred people have been identitiied for not addressing their student loans -- so warrants have been issued for their arrest. would you like fries with

developing overnight... a water main break leads to a sink hole. and it means an eastern iowa road may be closed the rest of the day. kwwls amanda gilbert joins us live in waterloo nearrthe cedar river with more details. behind me river road between ansborough avenue and commercial street is closed because of the water maan break.... this is near the techworks john deere facility... but i just checked in with police and they say at this time they aren't sure if the main eak will affect the facility. police say people should plan ahead though because the area of the road will likely be blocked off the rest of the day... officers say they don't think anyone is without power or water because of the break. but they y ay the problem is the water main break caused a sinkhole... which then caused a light pole to cave in.. we've got you covered... live in waterloo... amanda gilbert kwwl news.

not get into the water or cause any further damage. new this orning... concerns over whether iowa's medicaid program is ready or a big switch.h..set to happen in two weeks. the state is set to hand over management of its medicaid system to three private companies. the switch was originally supporsed to happen january first but feeeral regulators didn't think the state was ready. some lawmakers still aren't convinced the system is ready... everything is ready to go and know how they would respond what first the federal government could step in again to delay the switch. iowa lawmakers are moving a bill forward which could classify crimes committed against those who identify as transgender a

while the bill has no registered opposition - it still needs approval by a full committee before friday to stay alive this session. south dakota is on track to be the first state to tell transgender students which bathrooms they must use. a bill moving through the statehouse would require public school students to use bathrooms which correspond with how they were born... not necessaily the gender they identify with now. same rule would apply to locker rooms and showers. the state's gvenor is expected to sign this bill and make it "i think it's important for meeting a transgender person, that these bills are about `eal actually vote for him to hear their voices." the bill still allows transgender students to request whait calls "reasonable accommodation" from their schools. continuing coverage -- of a

a year after a teenager from vinton died, arrests are made. some of the charges are drug related. investigators say emma redlinger was accidently shot in the head last year after a friend mishandled a gun. six people were taken into custody yesterday. that includes robyn merchant who's facing a federal charge of providing a firearm to someone who shouldn't have one. a 17-year-old was also charged with involuntary manslaughter. others face charges for things like drug possession and lying to law enforcement. a teacher faces charges -- accused of stealing medication. doug wilkinson of cedar falls was arrested this month in connection to missing prescription drugs at holmes junior high. wilkinson is a high school english teacher. he's accused of stealing student medication n including adderall. court records says security video allegedly shows him taking pills from the nurse's cabinet... "well i was shocked. i thought i thought that would happen, especially in the schools." we reached out to the school
